Each week our "Kids Get Active" members have been learning about different cooking skills including proper hand washing, kitchen safety, cleaning, sanitizing and identifying different kitchen utensils. During the week of October 10-14, the whole group baked Spiced Butternut Squash Muffins. Using this fruit was a first for the members and the teachers! We learned that there are many different types of squash including a butternut and a buttercup! The buttercup squash is a very tough fruit to cut open and it resembles a pumpkin including the seeds. Members had the opportunity to have some hands-on experience with some of the kitchen utensils they identified last week. What a great way to celebrate the Thanksgiving season with some yummy autumn baking! Two thumbs up to Russell Food Equipment for donating the aprons for our cooking programs! The kids loved personalizing them with fabric paint and are putting them to good use!
