-->  Skill Building for Sports

The “Kids Get Active” Club afterschool program at Vance Chapman has been working on building basic sport skills through a variety of games & activities. These past few weeks we have been focusing on activities to help improve our endurance.  As a group we have come up with a ‘Weekly Workout Routine’ that helps us work on our stamina. Each week we will add a new physical exercise to our routine. We play a variety of games in the gym at a non-competitive level as well as encourage and motivate one another to do the best they can do.
The members have also have been working on their Skills Booklets, which include our ‘Weekly Workout Routine,’ the Endurance activities that we enjoyed playing, as well as a section of activities they can do at home that they enjoy.

February, 2012:

Moving on from Endurance, the Kids Get Active Club Members are now working on improving their Balance and Flexibility skills. Through a variety of games and stretches we are working to increase our Balance and Flexibility week by week. In the Rock, Paper, Scissors challenge pictured below, members try to beat their opponent so they do not end up doing the splits.

March 2012:

The Kids Get Active Club has started working on building their Strength skills. After doing the Weekly Workout Routine members participated in a variety of games to help improve their strength.

Playing different games like See Saw Squats, Floor Hockey Push-Up and Triangle tag really helped to develop individual strength.
