-->  Local Artists Kathleen Baleja, Rodney Brown and Shy Anne Hovorka visit!

Harbour Youth Services was SO pleased to welcome three local artists into our program during the month of May 2011!  Through the Community Arts & Heritage Education Project our members were afforded a once in a lifetime opportunity to work with acclaimed visual artist Kathleen Baleja (pictured right), award-winning singer-songwriter Rodney Brown and aboriginal singer-songwriter Shy Anne Hovorka

Harbour Youth Services program leaders have long felt that limited time and funding meant a narrowing of opportunity for inclusion of the arts in our members’ after school experiences.  Our partnership with CAHEP proved to be just the perfect antidote!

We were blessed with the wonderful occasion to meet and work with some extraordinary artists who have enriched our members’ lives in ways that we may never fully realize.  What we do know is that during the afternoons our members shared with Rodney Brown, Shy Anne Hovorka and Kathleen Baleja, there was frequent joy, lots of laughter, opportunity for self expression, development of teamwork and cooperation and an occasional call for patience!  What also unfolded over the weeks was a steady increase in self esteem while the children experienced and mastered new skills.

We thank the Ontario Arts Council for supporting the development of these effective partnerships that allow children to get a taste of what may become a lifelong exploration of the arts!  The pictures below reflect the wonderful time we had!
